DEGREE PROGRAM – ONLINE

For serious students who would like to complete a diploma or a BA in Islamic Law & Theology (Colorado Theology University). Courses consist of lectures, discussions [or labs], exams and essays. The degree can be completed in two years, or taken part-time over a few more years. The Colorado Theology University curriculum presents a comprehensive study of the entire religion of Islam taught through various subjects. There are no majors, minors or electives. The two-year integrated course of study draws upon the classical tradition of Muslim scholars while adjusting the content to be more suitable to the modern context. There are no ancient textbooks. The combination of uplifting lectures and insightful discussions allows the student to balance between an intellectual and spiritual study of Islam and its sources. Students develop the tools to inquire, analyze, apply and critique.

Accreditation

The Colorado Theology University is an open university. This charter provides that the CTU may offer programs and grant degrees in areas of Religious Study.  The CTU also engages in the sponsorship of research, publishing of monographs and awarding of grants and fellowships.

Accrediting agencies such as the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS) do not have a mechanism in place for the evaluation of the educational model of the Colorado Theology University.  The CTU is exempt from the jurisdiction of NCACS and ATS based on the following unique and innovative characteristics of this institution:
  1. The CTU is religious in program offerings, student body and institutional philosophy and mission.  The CTU does not embrace a doctrinal faith statement that would require exclusion of certain faith communities.
  2. The CTU utilizes an online library rather than a physical library.
  3. The CTU retains U.S.-based and international contract faculty rather than employing residential faculty.

For additional information on accreditation, you can click on the following link which will take you to the U.S. Department of Education’s accreditation statement.   A quote from this page regarding the Database of Accredited Programs and Institutions is as follows, “The database does not include a number of postsecondary educational institutions and programs that elect not to seek accreditation but nevertheless may provide a quality postsecondary education. The U.S. Department of Education recommends that the database be used as one source of qualitative information and that additional sources of qualitative information be consulted.”
